Each year several faculty visit IIMA from abroad to conduct full time MBA courses. In addition, between 10 and 20 research seminars from faculty abroad take place at IIMA every year. During the course of an academic year up to 70 exchange students from outside India are in residence on campus representing almost 45 countries.
A significant proportion of the material that is used on courses in various programs consists of material that is contextually based outside India.
For example, for the PGPs, on the Marketing 2 course in 2006-07, there are 30 sessions out of which 12 sessions use cases that are set outside India. For PGPX, on the Delivering and Managing Value course, 12 of the 20 sessions use cases from outside India in 2007-08. On the PGP-PMP program, the course, Customer Management-1 utilizes 7 cases from outside India on a 15-session course. On the Pricing course, 4 of the 8 cases used on the course were set outside India. On the international trade and investment class about 60% of the material is from outside. Across all courses and programs, between 20% and 50% of cases / other material will have a context outside India. Foreign language courses such as German, French, Japanese, and Spanish are available to the students to take as electives.
With India’s population exceeding 1.1 billion, and there being diverse linguistic and ethnic identities in its fold, India is a continent in itself.
An international exchange programs facilitates flow of ideas between academic institutions. Joint activities provide each school with better understanding of the methods and programs of the partnering school and enhance knowledge and skills of students and faculty members alike.
