IIMA has one of the finest faculties in the world comprising distinguished academicians, eminent entrepreneurs, theoreticians and scholars to establish the highest standards of teaching in business management.
More than half the faculty members have PhDs from prominent management institutes/universities abroad.
Most faculty at IIMA have rich prior experience at eminent business schools at home and abroad - such as London Business School, University of Texas at Austin, McGill University, Tulane University, and University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In addition, before joining IIMA, some of them have worked with firms such as HP in the US, Rolls Royce in the UK and South Africa, AF Ferguson in South East Asia and Mitchell Madison in the US. Many of the faculty members have also worked with different government organizations before coming to IIMA.
Besides this, the faculty also actively involves itself in research and authors books in their field of expertise at an international level. The result is faculty members have over last fifteen years:
• Written 95 international cases
• Presented 459 papers at international conferences
• Written 405 papers in international journals
• Reviewed manuscripts 102 times for international journals / conferences
• Participated as faculty in international management development programs 75 times
Other than that, many of the faculty members have worked on projects exclusively funded by international agencies and organizations and/or consulted and collaborated on projects of foreign origin. Every year faculty attend international conferences to get in touch with the international research platform.
Faculty members conduct International MDPs. Executive education is another important programme of IIMA which links faculty members to the corporate world. Over the years, the Institute has established itself as a leader in executive education in India. In the last few years, the Institute has also taken executive education to countries in West Asia and East Asia. The Institute has also started conducting executive program in collaboration with other business schools such as ESSEC, Duke, and Kennedy School of Government at HBS. Almost the entire faculty of the Institute is involved in conducting executive education program. The program also make use of external faculty, if required, from the practicing world, to bring in the requisite application orientation.
Faculty has wide exposure to the world of practicing management. Consultancy has always been an integral part of the activities of IIMA since its beginning. The genesis and operationalisation of consulting are described very well since the beginning of IIMA.
Consulting has a two-fold objective: (1) to improve management practices through the faculty's work on real world managerial problems, and (2) to contribute to the professional development of the faculty. Every new project provides an opportunity to the consultant to test out his ideas and models and to improve his understanding of the real world situations. In the interest of professional development the faculty are discouraged from undertaking repetitive type of projects, the learning value of which is minimal even though clients may have much to gain from such work.
Faculty also participates in the decision making processes of the corporations at the highest level. Several faculty members serve on the boards of organizations as independent directors.
A larger perspective, exposure to cutting edge management practices from around the globe and current course content geared to the needs of the industry are just some of the advantages that accrue to the student at IIMA.
