The Production & Quantitative Methods deals with the science of decision-making in the management context. The faculties in P&QM Area have expertise in a variety of basic disciplines like management science, operations management, operations research, industrial engineering, mathematics and stochastic process and statistics.

    Their research spans theoretical development and development of algorithms for solving operational problems as well as empirical modeling in Areas of manufacturing, service operations, information modeling, technology management and innovation, finance, marketing and supply chain management. The faculty has strong linkages with industry and public systems that enable them to blend academic rigor and industry relevance in research and consulting.

    It offers five courses in the first year of PGP. In the second year, it offers several elective courses such as:

• Materials management and supply chain coordination.
• Logistics management statistical methods in data analysis.
• Modelling for management decision making.
  

      It also offers MDPs on such topics as project management, manufacturing policy, innovations in manufacturing, logistics management and supply chain management.
  
      Operations Research, among other Areas, may focus on integer programming, network optimization and, large-scale optimization in process industry, application of operations research in finance, vehicle routing and location issues. Research in operations management may focus on strategic or operational issues related to manufacturing & service planning, supply chain coordination, shop floor scheduling and improving productivity of plant operations, design of operations (e.g., call centers, hospitals, factory floors), technological change and innovation, R&D capabilities, economics of flexible operations, process planning etc.

      The Area faculties have served (or currently serve) on editorial boards of scholarly journals like Management Science, Operations Research, Asian Journal of Operations Management, Opsearch, Journal of Operational Research Society and International Journal of Agile Manufacturing. Faculty have won several international awards like United States National Science Foundation’s Presidential Young Investigator Award, Franz Edelman Award of Institute of Operational Research and Management Science, USA.
